I explore Earth and other planets dynamical systems, connecting geophysical processes of the deep interior to the evolution of their atmospheres. In particular, I study the role of life in the coupled system. I want to understand which planets are most promising for the origin and evolution of life and to identify signatures in the atmospheres of exoplanets indicating the presence of an active biosphere.

Concerning the increasingly urgent issue of climate change, I am also studying the impact of anthropogenic emissions on the Earth System. What are the tipping points and associated timescales that could shape Earth's climate and our life on Earth? And how can we fight climate change?
