I explore the Earth as a dynamical system, connecting processes of the deep interior to the atmosphere of our planet. What role does the biosphere play in the system? What are the crucial processes that led to the diverse evolution of planets in our Solar System? And how can we use this knowledge to predict the evolution of exoplanets?

Concerning the increasingly urgent issue of climate change, I am currently especially studying the impact of anthropogenic emissions on the Earth System. What do we know from geological data about the climate response to external forcing? What are the tipping points and associated timescales that could potentially shape Earth's climate? And how can we fight climate change?
