I explore the coupled interior-atmosphere evolution of Earth and other (exo)planets. In particular, I study the role of life in the intertwined system. I want to understand which planets are most promising for the origin and evolution of life and to identify signatures in their atmospheres that indicate the presence of an active biosphere.

Concerning the increasingly urgent issue of climate change, I am also studying the impact of anthropogenic emissions on the Earth System. What are the tipping points and associated timescales that could shape Earth's climate and our life on Earth? And how can we fight climate change?
